In order to use your calving sensor most effectively this calving season, you should prepare it for action so you can hit the ground running.
With over 15,000 customers using our devices, the folks here at Moocall know the pitfalls and best practices for farmers using them.
Here's a short video to give you an idea of what to do:
We've also done up a checklist of things to do with your calving sensor before you enter calving season.
Clean off the worst of it before calving season to kill any bacteria that might have survived on the device. You can do this with a brush or a damp cloth. Here are some other things to consider:
- Don't submerge it in water. Your warranty will not cover this.
- Don't wet it if there is no charge cap - we will send you a new one if it has gone missing. It is vital that no water gets in the electronics of the device.
- Prevention is the best fix - make sure it is clean before you put it away.
We recommend that you charge your device at the end of the season to make sure you retain maximum battery performance.
However, if you do not have full battery at the beginning of calving season we recommend you give it a full charge - especially if you're going to be using it a lot.
To ensure that your button and connectivity still works, trigger a test SMS by firmly pressing in the button for half a second twice in a row.
If the button doesn't work after a few attempts of feels soft and empty we will replace it.
Make sure nothing is broken
Inspect your calving sensor to make sure everything is intact.
Make sure your grommets (the connectors between the device and the rubber) are still in place and that the rubber is ok.
We can send out new rubbers ahead of the new calving season.
